Object reference not set to an instance of an object

  Posted on: 05 Sep 2010
Below is the code that generates a run time exception in the subject line of this question.

        private void PopulateSummaryHeader(string empNumber, string fName, string lName, double hrsWorked)
        {
            lblEmpNumber.Text = empNumber;
            lblFirstName.Text = fName;
            lblLastName.Text = lName;
            lblDateRange.Text = "mm/dd/yy - mm/dd/yy";
            lblTotalHours.Text = Convert.ToString(hrsWorked.ToString("#.00"));
        }

"lblEmpNumber" is a defined in an .aspx page as follows:
<li><span class="label">ID:</span> <strong><asp:Literal ID="lblEmpNumber" runat="server" Text=""></asp:Literal></strong></li>
and is also declared in the aspx.desinger.cs

Is there enough information here to determine what I have done wrong?

If the problem is specific to ASP instead of the C# language then it should be in the ASP forum not the C# language forum.

Also, it helps to put all the infromation in the body of the post; you say "a run time exception in the subject line of this question" and it helps to put the error in the body.

For questions such as this, it is usually necessary to be specific about what line is failing. Without knowing what line, we don't know what is failing. You need to determine what object is not set and determine why it is not set.
Thinking is a feeling; pleasant for some and unpleasant for others.

Thanks Sam.  I will repost in the ASP forum.  I know which objects are not set, the lbl... within the PopulateSummaryHeader method.  I am trying to determine why.  Thanks again.
