How to Create Secondary Zone in Windows Server 2012

Introduction

In this article you will learn how to create a Secondary Zone in Windows Server 2012.

Step 1

First of all open the Administrative Tools from the Start Menu.

Now your Administrative Tools will be opened, here an option will be available named DNS, double-click on it to open it but remember that this option would only be available if you have already installed the DNS Server on your system.

Step 2

Now the DNS Manager Wizard will be opened, here on the left hand side the DNS pane will be available, right-click on your Server Name and choose to "Add New Zone".

Now the New Zone Wizard will be opened, where some information about this Zone will be provided, click on the "Next" button to start the process of adding the Zone.

Step 3

Now on the next page you will need to choose the type of Zone that you want to create.

After selecting the Secondary Zone, click on the "Next" button; that will take you to the next page where you will need to select a type of Lookup Zone which can be either a Forward Lookup Zone or the Backward Lookup Zone.

Step 4

On the next page you will be asked to provide the name for this new Zone. After providing the name click on the "Next" button.

On the next page you will need to provide the IP Address for the Master DNS Server from where this Secondary Zone will be copied.

The next page is the final page of the process, here the description of the selection made by you will be provided, click on the "Finish" button to complete the process.
