How to Install the DFS Server on Windows Server 2012

Introduction

Using this article you will learn how to install the DFS Server on Windows Server 2012.

To install DFS you need to use the following procedure.

Step 1

First of all go to your Server Manager, in the Server Manager you can install the features in one of two ways, either simply clicking on the "Add Rolls And Features" on the default page or you can click on the "Manage" button and then click on the "Add Features" button.

Now the Add Roles and Features Wizard will be opened where first, some information about this wizard will be provided, here click on the "Next" button to start the installation process.

Step 2

On the next page you need to select one of the Installation Types, two Installation Types will be on this page, the first one installs the features on a single server and the second installs the features on remote servers. Here you need to select the first option and then click on the "Next" button.

On the next page you need to select the server from the Server Pool and then click on the "Next" Button.

Step 3

The next page is the Main page on which the Server Roles are to be selected, since we need to Install the DFS, first expand the "Files and Storage Services" then expand the Files and iSCSi Services and then check the DFS Namespace and DFS Replication. After that click on the "Next" button.

Now the "Select Features Page" will be opened, if you want to install any other features then you can select them from this page and then click on the Next page otherwise simply click on the Next page.

Step 4

Now a confirmation page will be opened that will show the selections made by you and you need to click on the "Install" button to provide the final confirmation for installing these features.

Now your features will be installed.
