Building a Very Long Number Calculator Using Angular, React, Svelte, and Vue

Introduction

Modern computing has transformed the way we solve mathematical problems. From basic arithmetic to complex scientific calculations, calculators have become indispensable tools. However, traditional calculators have a significant limitation—they can only process numbers up to a certain number of digits. When dealing with numbers containing hundreds, thousands, or even millions of digits, a very long number calculator becomes essential.

Very long number calculators, also known as arbitrary-precision or big integer calculators, are designed to perform calculations on numbers far beyond the limits of standard calculators and programming language data types. These calculators play a vital role in cryptography, scientific research, financial systems, blockchain technology, and advanced mathematics.

What Is a Very Long Number Calculator?

A very long number calculator is a software application or online tool capable of performing arithmetic operations on integers and decimal numbers with virtually unlimited length. Unlike ordinary calculators, which are restricted by hardware or software limits, these calculators dynamically allocate memory to store and manipulate extremely large values.

For example:

Standard Calculator

Even numbers containing thousands of digits can be processed accurately without losing precision.

Supported Operations

A modern very long number calculator usually supports:

  • Addition

  • Subtraction

  • Multiplication

  • Division

  • Modulus

  • Exponentiation

  • Square Root

  • Factorials

  • Prime Number Operations

Advantages

A very long number calculator offers several benefits:

  • Unlimited number length

  • Exact calculations

  • No overflow errors

  • High precision

  • Suitable for scientific research

  • Essential for cryptography

  • Reliable for financial computations

Building a Very Long Number Calculator

In today's digital world, web applications are expected to be fast, responsive, and capable of handling increasingly complex tasks. While most online calculators are designed for everyday arithmetic, they often struggle when users input extremely large numbers. Standard JavaScript number types have precision limitations, making them unsuitable for calculations involving hundreds or thousands of digits.

To address this challenge, I developed a Very Long Number Calculator as four independent web applications using Angular, React, Svelte, and Vue. Each implementation delivers the same core functionality while showcasing the strengths, architecture, and development experience of a different modern frontend framework.

Project Overview

The Very Long Number Calculator was developed as four separate applications, each built with a different frontend framework:

  • Angular

  • React

  • Svelte

  • Vue

Rather than creating one application that switches frameworks, each version was developed independently. This approach makes it possible to compare framework architecture, development workflow, maintainability, component design, and overall performance while preserving the same user experience.

Each implementation follows modern web development practices and demonstrates how identical functionality can be achieved using different technologies.

Angular Implementation

Angular is a comprehensive frontend framework maintained by Google. It includes a rich set of built-in features such as routing, dependency injection, forms, HTTP services, and TypeScript support.

The Angular version of the Very Long Number Calculator benefits from:

  • Modular architecture

  • Strong typing with TypeScript

  • Reusable components

  • Structured project organization

  • Scalable application design

Angular is especially suitable for developers building enterprise-scale applications where consistency and maintainability are essential.

React Implementation

React is a JavaScript library developed by Meta that focuses on building user interfaces through reusable components.

The React implementation emphasizes:

  • Functional components

  • Hooks

  • Efficient rendering

  • Component reusability

  • Declarative UI development

React's ecosystem provides flexibility, allowing developers to choose libraries that best fit their application's needs while keeping the user interface responsive and maintainable.

Svelte Implementation

Svelte approaches frontend development differently by shifting much of the work from the browser to the build process.

Instead of relying heavily on a virtual DOM, Svelte compiles components into highly optimized JavaScript.

The Svelte implementation offers:

  • Minimal runtime overhead

  • Fast rendering

  • Simple syntax

  • Small bundle size

  • Excellent developer experience

This makes Svelte an attractive option for lightweight, high-performance web applications.

Vue Implementation

Vue combines simplicity with powerful features, making it popular among both beginners and experienced developers.

The Vue implementation demonstrates:

  • Single File Components

  • Reactive data binding

  • Clean component structure

  • Easy state management

  • Readable code organization

Vue strikes an excellent balance between simplicity and scalability, making it suitable for projects of various sizes.

Shared User Experience

Although each application was developed independently, the goal was to provide a consistent user experience across all four implementations.

The calculator interface is designed to be:

  • Clean

  • Responsive

  • Easy to use

  • Fast

Users can focus on performing calculations without unnecessary complexity or distractions.

Component-Based Architecture

Each version follows a component-oriented design.

Typical components include:

  • Calculator interface

  • Number input fields

  • Operation controls

  • Result display

  • Validation messages

Breaking the application into reusable components improves maintainability and simplifies future enhancements.

Benefits of Developing Multiple Framework Versions

Building the calculator in four frameworks provided practical experience with different frontend ecosystems.

Some key observations include:

Angular

  • Comprehensive framework

  • Strong architecture

  • Excellent TypeScript integration

  • Ideal for large applications

React

  • Flexible architecture

  • Large ecosystem

  • Highly reusable components

  • Popular industry adoption

Svelte

  • Lightweight output

  • Fast execution

  • Minimal boilerplate

  • Excellent performance

Vue

  • Easy learning curve

  • Elegant syntax

  • Powerful reactivity

  • Balanced feature set

Each framework offers unique strengths, and implementing the same project across all four highlights their similarities and differences in a meaningful way.

Educational Value

The project is valuable for students and developers because it demonstrates:

  • Modern frontend development

  • Component-based architecture

  • State management concepts

  • Form handling

  • User interface design

  • Framework comparison

  • Cross-framework implementation techniques

Instead of learning frameworks through isolated examples, developers can compare complete implementations of the same application.

Calculator Application

This Calculator application is a comprehensive web application that supports both standard arithmetic and advanced numerical operations on very large numbers. In addition to basic calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, the application offers a rich set of features designed for students, developers, researchers, and mathematics enthusiasts.

The calculator includes advanced mathematical operations such as finding the inverse, square, cube, nth power, square root, factorial, and modulus of a number. It also provides multiple display formats, allowing users to view results as formatted numbers, full numbers, or in exponential notation.

To accommodate international users, the application supports various numbering systems, including German, Indian, French, and Swiss formats. It also offers multilingual support for number representation in Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Hindi, Thai, and Tibetan. Additionally, numbers can be converted into words for values up to 304 digits, making it useful for documentation and educational purposes.

Several utility features enhance usability, including the ability to download number details as a text file, copy and paste numbers, use keyboard shortcuts for faster operation, and display the total length (number of digits) of a value. The calculator also provides mathematical constants such as π (Pi) and e (Euler's Number) with precision up to 304 decimal places.

Beyond arithmetic, the application includes an extensive collection of conversion tools, big number references, and very large prime number information. The built-in conversion utilities cover categories such as distance, weight, volume, time, bytes, and astronomical units.

For users interested in large-scale numerical values, the application provides reference information on well-known big numbers, including the Solar Mass, Earth Mass, Earth Volume, Googol, Avogadro's Constant, Eddington Number, the estimated number of chess game possibilities, and the number of Rubik's Cube combinations.

The calculator also features information on several classes of very large prime numbers, including Mersenne Primes, Factorial Primes (n! ± 1), Thabit Primes, Woodall Primes, Wagstaff Primes, and Cullen Primes, making it a valuable resource for users interested in number theory.

By combining powerful arithmetic capabilities, internationalization features, conversion utilities, mathematical constants, and educational references into a single platform, the Very Long Number Calculator provides a versatile and user-friendly solution for working with extremely large numbers.
