From the very first ever inception of the iPhone with the launch on January 9, 2007, coming up to today, iPhone has come a long way making billions of profits for Apple annually all the while leading the revolution in smartphone technology and making an irreplaceable brand value. So, what’s new with the series of iPhone 13 launched this year? Let's find out in this article.

1. The Stellar Cameras

Apple had enabled the iPhone 13s with an even more stellar camera than ever before. First and foremost, the main camera has an all-new sensor which is the largest ever on any iPhone. With the aperture of the f1.5 lens, the light-gathering capabilities are off the roof making it amazing for low light performance. The ultrawide now has an all-new autofocus sensor with improved light gathering. Moreover, the telephoto lens has a new sensor with 3X optical zoom capability.

UltraWide Lens turns Macro

Both the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a new macro mode which gets automatically triggered as you take the camera in the proximity of the subject. Though there is not a manual override, the auto transition from the wide camera to the macro feature using the ultrawide is really smooth. This has been possible with the autofocus feature in the ultrawide camera. The macro photography in the iPhone 13 Pro is by far the best on any smartphone as of today in bright to medium lighting environments.

The Cinematic Mode

Cinematic Mode is a new feature enabled in all of the iPhone 13 which uses the True Depth Camera array on the real camera to create video at 30 fps in 1080p. This feature plays with the Depth of Field (DOF) making it easier to create bokeh in the video now itself. Priorly, these effects were capable for the portrait mode in photos. Now, with iPhone capable to change focus from one subject to another in the video itself, this feature helps create an impressively dramatic cinematic experience on video. The change in the focus of the subject can be done while recording the video itself or after shooting the video while editing making it even more convenient.

The Photographic Profiles

One of the new features Apple has added to iPhones is the Photographic Profile. If you are bored with the standard iPhone look with the photos, now users can change it as per their desire to look more contrast-rich, vibrant, warm, or cool without any need for post-processing work. The semantic recognition in iPhone that recognizes various objects in the photo from skies to trees and animals or human gives it the choice to make a real-life color representation on the smart hdr process for individual parts within a scene itself to give better skin color and more. This is not a filter as the profile isn’t static across the image itself instead of the capability to invoke a real-life representation for each segment or object in the image scene. Now the profiles can be saved as the new default for all photos you take. However, you cannot have raw output with these profiles and would need to shoot in raw in order to preserve all the raw data which are higher file sizes.

Apple ProRes

With the iPhone 13 Pro to shoot at 4K at 30fps, the all-new ProRes video codec would help compress the large video files while at the same time retaining data of the image and the color making it easier to control and maintain the quality during post-production. This is set to be updated later this year. However, the fact that an iPhone can do what professional cinema cameras were only capable of easier is mind-blowing.

2. The ProMotion

Apple has now given the iPhone 13 Pros what most of us didn’t even know what we missed. The ultra-high refresh screens. Apple calls this the ProMotion. Apple had kept this long due while most of the other manufacturers like Samsung doing this for well over 2 years now. This, however, makes a significant change in how we feel and experience the use of the iPhone. Because of the super-fast compute power of iPhones in earlier versions, the 60Hz screens didn’t show any lack but it will change when you use the all-new 120Hz capable iPhone 13 Pros and look back at the iPhone 12. The refresh rate of the screen can automatically switch between 10Hz to 120Hz depending upon the use of talks in the iPhone. All of this in the OLED display screen of iPhone 13 Pros makes it a significantly pleasurable experience to use.

3. A15 Bionic Chip

The A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13 series, is the fastest processor on any smartphone ever. As we dive deeper within the A15 Bionic chip too, the A15 chip on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max is different from the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini. The Pro models have five core A15 chips while the 13 and Mini having only four core A15 chips. This five-core A15 chip on the 13 Pros makes gaming, video, and photo editing and rendering, and the use of multiple apps and switching buttery smoother than ever before.

4. Amazing Battery Life

Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro has an 11% bigger battery and 13 Pro Max with an even better 18.5% large battery than last year. This is a significant improvement of over 1.5 hours on Pro and 2.6 hours on Pro Max while the iPhone 12 Proline itself having an amazing battery life. This makes the iPhone 13 Pros mitigate the battery life anxiety to its users now without even having to carry an external battery pack.

5. Smaller Notch

Though it might not be a drastic update and one might feel the significantly similar visual look on the iPhone 13 Pros compared with the iPhone 12 Pro line, the notch on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max is however smaller than before.

6. Storage up to 1TB

The storage for the iPhone 13 Pro is available up to 1TB. 1TB used to be set for computers just a few years earlier. Now, with the iPhone 13 Pros, you can enjoy plenty of photos and video storage. This is for the extreme pros who take tons of videos and photos and plan to shoot in raw. But even for them, 1TB is a limit that will take some serious time to fill giving everyone a breath of fresh air to breathe and with such a storage space option, one wouldn’t have to worry while shooting, ever again.

Conclusion

The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have updated what a regular consumer wants in a phone, a better screen, a crazily good camera, and a better battery life. What more would one ask for right? Feel free to share your view in the comment section below!
