I faced a peculiar situation today while trying to work on the update external list through the SharePoint 2013 Designer Workflow. The External List Item couldn't be updated through the workflow. After searching a lot on the web, I found out that this is a known Issue with the SharePoint 2013.
The resolution provided by Microsoft is, to use the SharePoint designer workflow 2010 as the List Workflow action of the SharePoint 2013.
