Executing Stored Procedure is faster than Ado.net Server side Query execution. So I suggest you to go ahead with Stored Procedure.

Sub query is always delayed. You should always choose a smart implementation as per your functionalities. Say If You grid only display 10 itmes on Grid than you should execute on Asp.net page rather than executing on Sql server query.

Images can be implemented ion two ways.

1. Store the Image Patch on Database and real image in a File Server (application specific Folder)
2. Store Image on Binary Data on Sql Server.

Both have their own advantage and disadvantages.
