asp Update panel

Question

Hi!

Does anybody knows how to instruct an update panel to update its context, without assigning a button(or any other server control) for that task. What I want is that some javascript client code would instruct an update panel to check the server for new data. Times when the data has to be refreshed are not pre-defined so I can not use the asp timer control.
