You can add null / not null or change data type as per your requirement. Data types should be IDENTICAL between tables.

Also, this is an exclusive db related thing, please do not couple it with C#, MVC, etc. The syntax wouldn't change if you use Java!

In fact, try to remove any association you may have in your mind about back-end and front-end. That's what the abstraction is!
