public variables can be used for read and write.
property has getter and setter. So it can set the value and also can get the value which is similar to the public variable.

but if you only want to show the value and not to update the value then you can use property to get the value.

Example:
here Myproperty is hidden so we use property to get the value.

private int MyProperty;

int myPorperty
{
get { return MyProperty;}
}
