how to achieve abstraction

In the sense in which 'abstraction' is normally used in object oriented programming, you can achieve it through either abstract classes or interfaces.

Neither of these can be instantiated themselves but provide a way to represent a concept in an abstract way i.e. by declaring methods, properties etc. A class which inherits from the abstract class or implements the interface can then provide a concrete implementation of these members.
