how to handle web Api errors

Hi friends,

I am handling empty result from the API, but when api domain not working ,it is throwing exception,dashboard is not coming.

How to handle this web api error ? It is .net core proect, the api should stop and dashboard should come.

Hi Prashana,

As mahesh marked, you can handle in multuple way. You can create log file or log in database. once you have exception details with you in log file or database you can read it from there and get exception details from there and it will be very helpful to you to get when exeception ioccured for which operation and from where it occured.

One way to keep track of errors and exceptions is, write them to a log file. Log files can be read directly or via tools that show them as a dashboard. Some developers capture them in a database and create a reporting dashboard. You can also implement notifications in the backend when errors occur.

It means you have not handed the API calls correctly in your web project.
If you receive error from API then pass empty object to your view and also display some error or directly redirect to the error page.
public IActionResult Dashboard()
{
var res=_client.GetAsync(url).Result; // anything similar
if(!res.Success)
{
return View(new Dashborad()); //or return redirect("\ErrorController\errorView");
}
return View(res);
}
Note:- you can also set the global error page in startup.cs (.NET 5) or Main()[.NET 6]
