how to hide desktop icon

To test the code (which I have already on Windows 7), just create a new WF application and place a button on the form. Now add the code shown here:

You'll need to resort to calling Windows API functions to hide desktop icons programatically.

Right click on your desktop and select arrange icons by and then uncheck the "Show Desktop icons" option.
