I saw the sample of the

c4fToolkit:ColorPicker but I would like to be able to get the color information out of an image (RGB or HEX) any clues?

You can use free image editor software like photoshop to retrieve imaging information of image color.
Following are detailed steps:
In PhotoShop you use the magnetic lasso to outline the part you want to have color. Then press SELECT INVERSE and everything except that outlined thing will be selected. Now with most of the photo selected use DESATURATE to take out all the color. What will be left is the original chosen area in color and the rest in black and white.
