Opening model pop extender on button click

i have two button in a page and a model pop extender in contain also in this page when we click enter model pop extender open automatically.so i will wont that will not open on the button click. so kindly give me any solution asap.

at button click event on aspx.cs page
Modalpopupextender1.show():

or by calling javascript function (without doing postback)
function showPopup() {
$find('Modalpopupextender1').show();
}
