SharePoint Site is a website that contains SharePoint Web Parts like Document Library, Calendar, Task List, etc.

 

SharePoint Site Collection  is the root site of the web site. It is a collection of SharePoint Sites. Each site collection contains a single top-level site and followed by subsites under one SC.
