Upgrade the version from sql server 2012 to 2014

Hi everyone,

I use sql server 2012 express on the client machine and now I want to upgrade it to 2014 express. what is the best practice to upgrade it without affecting the existing database

Hey

Have you tried taking database backup (the .bak file) and then after installing the required sql version, just restore that after upgradation.

If you are looking for a solution to upgrade the version from SQL Server 2012 to 2014, then follow these steps to upgrade MS SQL 2012 to MS SQL 2014.
Upgrade from SQL 2012 to SQL 2014
1. Download the SQL 2014 Express from the http://www.microsoft.com.
2. Select the Installation process and begin the Upgrade from SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, or SQL Server 2012.
3. Continue through the pre-installation process. Pre-request files and services are updated. Setup Support Rules are processed.
4. On the Select Instance screen, select the AutodeskVault instance to upgrade and confirm instance settings. Click Next.
5. Accept the default features on the Select Features screen by clicking Next.
6. On the Instance Configuration screen, click Next.
7. On the Ready to Upgrade screen, click Upgrade. Setup will complete and upgrade the AutodeskVault SQL instance to SQL 2014.

Okk Amit sir, I will try that. i am just afraid of data should not be lost and a hassle free upgradation

Thank you both of you for the answer but in my client machine, the version is just 2012 (not any service pack)

I tried installing 2014 express sp1 ( as I need to make my application compatible to windows 7), it says you need to have 2012 express sp1 installed to upgrade.( which is more than 600 MB)

How can I do hassle free upgradation?
