Which data type is used to store password in database ??

Hello,

I created a form using some fields including password....so plz tell me which data type should i use to store password....also if i set textmode of the textbox to password, them blank textbox displays on the form..how should i get the password in dots or asterisk?

no one will retrive password from database, this is a secured one,user has to enter that, thats why when you made textmode to password its not displaying, if you change this mode to text then it will show but it wont show as dots,
I do not know why are you retriving password and showing to textbox, which is wrong

change the textbox mode to password
use nvarchar(specified size) in sql

Yes sir...its giving dots..bt when i retrieve the data from database, it displays blank textbox...if i won't set textmode, it displays normal text

in web form, you can use as you said textmode to password, that is default dot will come, here you can not give any other character

I do not know sir...bt its not there...and my namespace is System.Web.UI.WebControls

or you can just double click on the form now you can see form load event, inside that you can write as below

textBox1.PasswordChar = '*';

instead of textBox1 you can give your textbox name

Thats not much likely if it is really a Windows Forms Application. This property is there, if i remember it rightly, ever since the first version of Visual Studio.

If this is still not resolved, click on the text-box on the Windows Form, the press F4, which should open properties window. Locate PasswordChar property and type your preferred char (*, ., etc.) there.

While you are there, I suggest you also set MaxLength property to an appropriate value.

if you are using sql then you can use nvarchar(50) as I have said before
or you can use any string datatype

you can use nvarchar datatype to store the passwords.

then select text box, in prperties you ca see PasswordChar their you can give any character that you wanted to display
