As the Manager of AI Risk Management, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the risks associated with the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) systems at American Express. You will help establish a robust risk management framework that addresses both traditional AI and generative AI (Gen AI) applications, ensuring the safety and compliance of our innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Operationalize AI Risk Management. Implement the AI risk management framework and policy to identify, measure, manage, and report on risks associated with AI technologies.
- Risk Assessment. Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across the AI use case lifecycle and prepare reporting on key risk metrics for management and the Board.
- Control Testing. Test relevant controls in accordance with American Express’s risk and control framework to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
- Monitoring Processes. Execute continuous monitoring and testing processes to evaluate AI-related risks, ensuring timely identification of potential issues.
- Governance Support. Assist in the governance of Gen AI use case assessments and lifecycle management, maintaining an inventory of AI systems.
- Training Development. Develop and deliver enterprise-wide training programs focused on AI risk management for colleagues.
- Metrics Standardization. Support the creation of standardized metrics to track Gen AI usage and overall AI risk management efforts.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration. Serve as a point of contact for internal teams requiring support related to AI risks and governance.
Qualifications
- Experience. Minimum of 5 years in risk management or related fields within the financial services industry, with a focus on AI and emerging technologies.
- Technical Expertise. Deep understanding of AI/machine learning technologies and their associated risks, along with a strategic mindset to align risk management with business objectives.
- Risk Management Skills. Proven experience managing existing and emerging risks, with expertise in data risk, information security, compliance, and governance.
- Educational Background. Advanced degree in Technology, Engineering, Risk Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline preferred.
- Industry Knowledge. Familiarity with financial services regulations and ethical principles related to AI.
- Leadership Skills. Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with a proven track record in building and managing risk management teams.
- Analytical Proficiency. Strong data-driven approach and experience with risk management analytics tools.
