Job Description

We are seeking an experienced AWS Redshift Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team and manage our Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) on AWS Redshift. In this role, you will be responsible for the architecture, administration, and operational management of AWS Redshift clusters and related cloud infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with data engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure the optimal performance and scalability of the system, enabling us to meet the growing demands of data analytics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the administration of AWS Redshift clusters across all environments, including development, staging, and production.
  • Perform database configuration, node management, query optimization, and troubleshooting for AWS Redshift databases.
  • Manage Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) on AWS Redshift, ensuring smooth operation, high availability, and fault tolerance.
  • Own the architecture of the AWS Redshift clusters including configuration, sizing, and node topology.
  • Partner with Data Architects and engineers to define design and data modeling standards for AWS Redshift.
  • Provide guidance on optimal design for database performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Automate provisioning, operation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Redshift databases and related infrastructure.
  • Work with data engineers to optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and improve the overall performance of data processing workflows.
  • Perform query optimization, tuning, and troubleshooting for both production and ad-hoc queries.
  • Monitor database health and performance, and provide regular reports to stakeholders.
  • Perform regular backups, recovery operations, and apply patches/upgrades to maintain database health.
  • Collaborate with teams to design and implement automated alerting and monitoring systems.
  • Partner with development teams to ensure efficient data model design and query execution.
  • Assist in incident management by troubleshooting, resolving, and documenting database-related issues.
  • Ensure that database policies, procedures, and standards are properly followed.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AWS Redshift and related technologies.
  • Continuously assess and improve existing processes, technologies, and practices to optimize performance.

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in Redshift Administration for managing databases, user tables, indexes, and permissions.
  • Strong experience in AWS Redshift performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with core AWS services like EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, and AWS CLI.
  • Familiarity with related AWS technologies such as Redshift Spectrum, Aurora, EMR, DynamoDB, Athena, AWS Glue, Lake Formation, AWS Data Shares, and PySpark.
  • Experience working with ETL/ELT pipelines, including building, managing, and optimizing data workflows.
  • Basic experience with Python or Scala for data manipulation and scripting.
  • Expertise in automation of database management tasks, including provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with GitHub and version control practices for managing database scripts.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL for managing and troubleshooting Redshift databases.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve issues related to database performance, query execution, and capacity planning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Database – Specialty certifications are preferred.
  • Understanding of data modeling principles and best practices for building scalable and efficient data systems.
  • Experience with managing and integrating data lakes using AWS services like Lake Formation and S3.
