As part of the Lounge Services Team within Membership Services, we play a pivotal role in enhancing the digital journey for American Express Card Members, helping them discover, access, and enjoy exclusive lounges. Your Role and Responsibilities. As a Frontend Engineer, you will work on building exceptional user experiences, ensuring seamless integration of frontend and backend systems while maintaining high performance and responsiveness across our platforms. You will collaborate with design, backend, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture & Design. Take hands-on ownership of frontend architecture, ensuring efficient integration with backend services.
- Collaboration with Design Teams. Work closely with UX/UI designers to turn design wireframes into responsive, efficient code that delivers a great user experience.
- Component Integration. Collaborate with frontend and backend engineers to integrate and optimize the functionality of different application components.
- Software Development & Deployment. Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable software applications while maintaining high code quality and adhering to best practices.
- API Integration. Implement and maintain RESTful APIs for frontend-backend interaction.
- Code Quality & Maintenance. Participate in code reviews, enforce code quality standards, and troubleshoot issues to ensure the application runs smoothly.
- Emerging Technologies. Stay up-to-date on the latest frontend technologies, tools, and frameworks, sharing insights with the team.
- Mentorship. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in frontend development, particularly with React/Redux.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with experience in modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, NextJS).
- Strong experience integrating RESTful APIs and familiarity with backend systems.
- Knowledge of web performance, cross-browser compatibility, and responsive design best practices.
- Solid understanding of state management, hooks, and component lifecycle in React.
- Experience with asynchronous programming and working with backend APIs.
- Familiarity with version control systems, CI/CD pipelines, and working in cloud environments.
Preferred
- Experience with server-side rendering and techniques for optimizing frontend performance.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and experience with tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha).
- Experience with Amex’s internal tools (e.g., OneApp) would be a plus.
