We are seeking a skilled and experienced Kong API Gateway Administrator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining Kong API Gateway, along with integrating it seamlessly with existing APIs. Additionally, proficiency in Kubernetes and Docker environments, coupled with a strong understanding of API design standards and patterns, is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

1. Installation and Configuration. Install and configure Kong API Gateway, ensuring seamless integration with existing APIs and systems.
2. Kubernetes Expertise. Utilize Kubernetes and Docker environments for deploying and managing Kong Ingress, along with proficiently handling configurations within these platforms.
3. API Design Standards. Possess excellent knowledge of API design standards, patterns, and specifications, particularly Swagger and OpenAPI 2.0. Ensure adherence to best practices in API development, including REST principles and data formats like JSON and XML.
4. Documentation Management. Maintain comprehensive documentation of public API specifications using the Kong Developer Portal, ensuring accessibility and clarity for developers.
5. Monitoring and Debugging. Employ robust monitoring tools and platforms to monitor and debug any issues related to the API gateway or applications running on it. Troubleshoot and apply fixes promptly to ensure continuous availability.
6. DevOps Pipeline Integration. Automate Kong API Gateway configurations as part of the DevOps pipeline, streamlining deployment processes and enhancing efficiency.
7. JWT Management. Demonstrate a deep understanding of JWTs (JSON Web Tokens) and their usage within the context of API security and authentication.
8. Administration and Maintenance. Administer and manage Kong API Gateway, including performing upgrades, patching, and ensuring high availability to meet business requirements.
9. Tool Proficiency. Utilize a variety of middleware and monitoring tools, including Bamboo, Bitbucket, Datadog, and others, for automation, integration, upgrades, and deployment tasks.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience working with Kong API Gateway and Kubernetes environments.
• Strong understanding of API design standards, open API specifications, and best practices.
• Proficiency in Swagger, OpenAPI 2.0, REST principles, JSON, and XML.
• Experience in maintaining API documentation and specifications.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and debugging API gateway and application issues.
