Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our world-class infrastructure team. In this role, you will play a key part in building and evolving the next-generation platforms that power LinkedIn, including high-scale application and service delivery platforms, distributed data storage systems, cutting-edge AI and search technologies, experimentation frameworks, and privacy and compliance solutions.

LinkedIn has been at the forefront of open-source infrastructure innovation, contributing to widely used projects such as Apache Kafka, Pinot, Azkaban, Samza, Venice, DataHub, and Feather. We also leverage leading technologies like Kubernetes, gRPC, and GraphQL. As part of our team, you will work with these technologies while developing scalable and high-performance systems that empower LinkedIn’s millions of users.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Drive Innovation. Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable software solutions, ensuring impact at a global scale.
  2. Architect and Mentor. Provide architectural guidance and technical mentorship to elevate engineering standards within the organization.
  3. Define Best Practices. Establish and advocate best practices in software development, performance optimization, and operational efficiency.
  4. Build Reusable Systems. Design and implement robust products, services, and tools that can be leveraged across teams and departments.
  5. Identify and Solve Complex Problems. Lead teams in diagnosing and addressing large-scale technical challenges with innovative solutions.
  6. Collaborate Across Teams. Work closely with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to align technical strategies with business goals.
  7. Enhance Team Culture. Foster a collaborative environment, resolving conflicts and ensuring alignment within teams.
  8. Code Review and Knowledge Sharing. Regularly review code, provide constructive feedback, and share technical knowledge to upskill the engineering community.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 14+ years of industry experience in software development, system design, and algorithm-driven solutions.
  • Extensive programming expertise in Java, C++, Python, Go, C#, or functional languages like Scala.
  • Hands-on experience in developing large-scale distributed systems, databases, and backend APIs.
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, guiding teams in architecture, design, and execution.
  • Strong background in system design with the ability to build resilient, high-performance applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing and maintaining large-scale distributed systems and client-server architectures.
  • Experience leading large teams and organizations, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Ability to drive technical strategies across multiple organizations through influence and technical excellence.

Key Skills

  • Expertise in Distributed Systems and Backend Infrastructure
  • Deep understanding of Java and scalable system architectures
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Experience with Kubernetes, GraphQL, gRPC, Apache Kafka, Pinot, and other open-source technologies
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities
