Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer – AI with strong expertise in both classic and generative AI techniques, particularly in building intelligent systems that power knowledge discovery, information summarization, and enhanced productivity.

This is a unique opportunity to be a part of Gartner’s mission to help enterprise leaders make better decisions by delivering intelligent, data-driven insights at scale. You will lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered Python applications that accelerate our Research & Consulting Delivery strategy.

This role combines rapid prototyping, deep research, and hands-on engineering—perfect for those who thrive at the intersection of innovation and implementation.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and execute fast-paced AI initiatives, often delivering working solutions within a matter of weeks.
  • Design and develop scalable AI-based applications using Python, with a focus on real-world business use cases such as semantic search, summarization, and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in both classical ML and generative AI, including emerging frameworks, models, and techniques.
  • Build and evaluate proofs of concept (PoCs) quickly to test ideas and validate approaches before full-scale implementation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop tools that enhance the productivity of Gartner associates.
  • Apply frameworks for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, and observability for production-grade AI systems.
  • Measure and continuously improve the accuracy, helpfulness, and performance of generative AI responses.
  • Deploy solutions to cloud environments such as AWS and Azure, ensuring high reliability and security.
  • Work in an Agile development environment using tools like Jira and GitHub, contributing to sprint planning, code reviews, and daily standups.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • 4–6 years of hands-on experience in classical AI/ML techniques, such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and feature engineering.
  • At least 1.5 years of direct experience with generative AI tools and technologies including LLMs, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering.
  • Strong background in Python programming, with expertise in libraries such as Pandas, Scikit-learn, NumPy, SciPy.
  • Proficiency in building and scaling AI applications using agentic AI frameworks, embedding models, and vector databases like FAISS, Pinecone, or similar.
  • Experience with observability and performance evaluation frameworks for generative AI systems.
  • Ability to work efficiently in Agile teams, using tools such as Jira, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native development and deployment practices on AWS, Azure, or both.
