Role Overview. Data Engineer
Hybrid Work Option
This role offers a hybrid work option, allowing you to balance working from home and commuting to a LinkedIn office. We prioritize a collaborative environment where teams can work together when needed.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with high-performing data science professionals and cross-functional teams to identify business opportunities and develop scalable data solutions.
- Act as an owner of data systems, managing complex structures for products and driving data-driven decision-making.
- Perform data transformations to support products, facilitating data-driven decision-making.
- Designed and managed data pipelines, architected databases, and established efficient programming patterns for technical and non-technical partners.
- Implement performant systems or components for large-scale data flows or applications.
- Share best practices and standards in the data ecosystem across teams.
- Understand analytical objectives to make logical recommendations and drive informed actions.
- Engage with internal platform teams to prototype and validate tools for deriving insights from massive datasets or automating complex algorithms.
- Initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance.
- Contribute to engineering innovations aligning with LinkedIn’s vision and mission.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Informatics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Economics, etc.).
- 5+ years of relevant industry or academia experience working with large datasets.
- Experience with SQL/Relational databases.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., R, Python, Java, Scala, PHP).
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in a quantitative discipline.
- Experience with Spark and Hive for data pipeline development.
- Knowledge of data modeling, ETL concepts, and patterns for efficient data governance.
- Experience with distributed data systems (Hadoop, Spark, Presto, Pig, Hive, etc.).
- Familiarity with data workflows/modeling, front-end or back-end engineering.
- Deep understanding of technical and functional designs for relational and MPP Databases.
- Data visualization and dashboard design experience (Tableau, R visualization packages, D3, etc.).
- Knowledge of Unix systems, git, and review board.
