The SDN Planning group under Verizon Network Technology and Planning organization is looking for a self-motivated and innovative thinking Senior Software Engineer in support of Verizon SDN architecture, technology development, and deployment. As a senior-level member of technical staff, you will be interacting with software engineers, network/system operations staff, network/system architects, and vendor partners to provide SDN technology solutions to keep our service relevance in the marketplace in the fast moving and quickly evolving networking industry.
- Designing and developing software scaling architectures and next-generation network architecture using modern networking technology, open-source, and deliver production deployable le solutions.
- Working on hands-on software development, unit testing, Integration testing, Code Reviews, and develop regression test plans to harden the software. Work with the Automation team to automate the software testing.
- Supporting production software issues with the highest priority and define/design new tools for debugging and triaging issues.
- Holding software design reviews/presentations and proactively communicate the status, issues, and roadblocks with stakeholders.
Qualification
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in designing and developing network software systems and scale-out software.
Good to have
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline/experience.
- Eight or more years of hands-on software development experience including design, development, debugging and support, building scalable software systems and software infrastructure.
- Experience with programming languages (Java, Python, Go), software debugging tools (jdb, jmx), spring framework, and automation scripting.
- Ability to Interface and Integrate applications with messaging infrastructures (kafka, thrift, proto-buf), databases (Redis, Cassandra, SQL/NoSQL), and triaging the data consistency issues.
- Experience in debugging/triggering production issues and using open-source logging and reporting solutions (Logstash, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Grafana).
- Knowledge of scale-out infrastructure, distributed systems, and web services technologies.
- Experience in designing and applying data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented concepts to solve challenging problems.
- Experience transforming the monolithic software systems into micro service-oriented software systems, containerization and container scheduling/management platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to analyze and implement enhancements to existing applications/code.
- Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel.
