We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Video Product Team within LinkedIn's Applications division. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in backend engineering, particularly in video systems, along with exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills. You will be responsible for managing a small team focused on growing video liquidity across LinkedIn’s product ecosystem, working closely with cross-functional teams, driving innovation, and ensuring the successful implementation of strategic video initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the growth of video content and its distribution across LinkedIn’s global platform.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership. Manage and mentor a team of engineers, guiding their career development and ensuring the team operates efficiently and delivers high-quality results.
- Strategic Impact. Own the long-term technology roadmap for the video product, focusing on scaling video across notifications and email, and optimizing video relevance with AI-based solutions.
- Cross-functional Collaboration. Work with product, AI, business development, and marketing teams to align technical solutions with business needs, drive cross-functional initiatives, and expand video distribution outside LinkedIn.
- Software Engineering Excellence. Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of scalable backend services to support video-based features, utilizing distributed systems, APIs, and AI technologies.
- Ownership of Code Quality. Ensure the production of well-tested, efficient, and reliable code that aligns with LinkedIn’s best practices for continuous integration and deployment.
- Performance Optimization. Utilize data and performance metrics to drive improvements, troubleshoot bottlenecks, and ensure high availability and scalability of video features.
- Technology Evangelism. Advocate for the video product internally, educating teams and stakeholders about its potential and driving adoption across LinkedIn’s platforms.
Basic Qualifications
- Education. BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Leadership Experience. 1+ years of people management experience or 1+ years of staff-level engineering experience with training in management.
- Software Engineering Experience. 5+ years in software design, development, and large-scale engineering, with experience in backend technologies and video systems.
- Technical Skills. Strong proficiency in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages such as Java, Python, C++, or Scala.
- Scalable Systems. Experience developing scalable, high-performance applications in a distributed environment.
- API Development. Proficiency in building RESTful APIs, integrating microservices, and working with backend databases.
- Agile Development. Experience working in an Agile development environment with modern engineering practices and CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree. MS or PhD in Computer Science or related field.
- Technical Management Experience. 2+ years of hands-on software engineering and technical management, leading teams through full product development cycles.
- Video Systems Expertise. Experience with video streaming, video processing, or related media technologies.
- Cross-Platform Development. Experience developing solutions that integrate across multiple platforms (web, mobile, etc.).
- Leadership in Scaling. Proven track record of scaling applications and systems for high user demand and large-scale distributed deployments.
- AI & Machine Learning. Familiarity with AI-based systems for personalization, relevance, or content recommendation in video services.
