This team leverages Visa’s extensive dataset, covering over 3 billion cards and 100 billion transactions annually, to create impactful solutions for our analytical partners. This role will be part of the Global Solution Data Engineering team within Visa’s Global Data Office, responsible for developing and maintaining global data assets and solutions. We are looking for expertise in data warehousing and building large-scale data processing systems using cutting-edge database technologies. The Staff Data Engineer will be responsible for designing and managing data pipelines, local data warehouses, and data frameworks, and implementing various data presentation techniques. This position is based at Visa's offices in Bangalore, India.
Essential Functions
- Define, execute, and manage large-scale data pipelines to build scalable and flexible data solutions supporting global client delivery.
- Demonstrate strong data analytical and visualization skills, utilizing self-service reporting tools like Tableau or Power BI to develop KPIs and facilitate Visa Consulting engagements.
- Possess strong problem-solving capabilities, proposing feasible solutions and effectively communicating strategies and risk mitigation approaches to leadership.
- Develop ETL pipelines in Spark, Python, HIVE to process transaction and account level data, standardizing data fields across multiple sources.
- Ensure timely delivery of dashboards and model scores to clients using global solutions in the portfolio.
- Build and maintain high-performing ETL processes, ensuring data quality and testing aligned with technology and internal reporting teams.
- Enhance data processing and deliver monthly/quarterly products/solutions from the Global solutions portfolio.
- Establish data dictionaries, set up data validation alerts, and execute periodic jobs such as performance dashboards and predictive model scoring for client deliverables.
- Define and create technical and data documentation, utilizing code version control systems (e.g., git) to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency.
- Identify opportunities for automating repeatable financial and statistical analyses to support Visa Consulting and Analytics.
- Collaborate with diverse business and technical teams across global regions, ensuring seamless management of solution build and operations.
- Possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate technical insights and recommendations to business customers and leadership.
- Experience working with global teams and Fortune 500 companies, with direct client-facing roles.
- Exposure to model management and governance practices, making decisions regarding model drift monitoring and continuous refinement.
- Manage a team of Data Engineers, providing mentoring and support to build a strong team that meets expectations.
Technical Skills
- Extensive experience in building large-scale data engineering pipelines, with a focus on data-driven decision-making and quantitative analysis.
- Proficiency with SQL for extracting, aggregating, and processing big data pipelines using Hadoop ecosystem technologies.
- Experience handling complex, high-volume, multi-dimensional data and developing machine learning models using unstructured, structured, and streaming datasets.
- Strong proficiency with Visualization Tools such as Tableau, Power BI, D3, and exposure to code version control systems (git).
- Advanced skills in writing and optimizing efficient SQL queries, Python scripting, and Hive for handling large datasets in Big Data environments.
- Experience creating and supporting production software/systems, with a track record of identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
- Proficiency in Unix/Shell or Python scripting and exposure to scheduling tools like Oozie and Airflow.
- Exposure to deploying large-scale ML/AI models developed by data science teams, with experience in model development being a strong plus.
Qualifications
- 9+ years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree in an analytical field such as computer science or electronics, or 8+ years of work experience with a Master's or Advanced Degree.
- Working knowledge of the Hadoop ecosystem and associated technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Python, Pandas).
