Technical writers play a vital role in Google Cloud by creating and maintaining educational content that empowers engineers and users. Whether it's documentation, UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational materials, technical writers excel in simplifying complex topics for their audience.
In this role, you'll craft clear, well-organized, and accurate documentation, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver a seamless experience to our customers.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in producing documentation for a technical audience.
- Experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in privacy and security engineering, especially encryption.
- Experience in researching and writing effective documentation for developers and Developer Operations.
- Experience writing for the web and familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and markdown.
- Ability to understand source code (e.g., Java and Python).
- Passion for learning and documenting new technologies in a fast-moving and constantly changing environment, with excellent communication and people management skills.
Responsibilities
- Write technical documentation, including overviews, how-to guides, user guides, and API references.
- Develop additional content such as articles, images, white papers, and solutions documents as required.
- Organize existing documentation, identify gaps, and initiate new projects to fill those gaps.
- Collaborate with diverse teams to define documentation requirements and work closely with engineers to create and update documentation sets on cloud and internal platforms.
- Edit, clarify, and enhance documents authored by engineers and others, while also providing guidance and support to improve their writing skills through consultations and regular office hours.
