Google is bringing a major upgrade to the in-car experience with the rollout of Gemini on Android Auto, available globally in 45 languages. Drivers who have upgraded from Google Assistant to Gemini on their phones will begin seeing the new assistant appear in their car displays over the coming months.

Gemini keeps the hands-free features drivers rely on, but adds far more capability through natural conversation. Instead of memorizing exact commands, users can speak normally, ask follow-up questions and complete more complex tasks while keeping their eyes on the road.

Explore stops with local insight

Gemini enhances Google Maps with real-time context from reviews and business information. Drivers can ask for restaurant suggestions along a route, check parking options, review top dishes or see whether a location is dog-friendly.

Send and adjust messages without starting over

Drivers can dictate messages, add ETAs, insert emojis or refine text mid-conversation. Gemini can also summarize multiple incoming messages and translate replies into more than 40 languages.

Get more done with Gmail and productivity apps

Gemini can pull information from emails, surface details like hotel addresses and summarize unread messages. It also supports Calendar, Tasks, Keep and Samsung’s productivity apps, with more third-party integrations coming soon.

Create music vibes on demand

With support for YouTube Music, Spotify and more, Gemini can build playlists based on mood, weather or simple descriptions like “something upbeat for a three-hour road trip with kids.”

Learn, brainstorm and rehearse on the go

Using the new Gemini Live beta, drivers can dive into real-time conversations to learn about destinations, brainstorm gift ideas or rehearse speeches, all without leaving navigation mode.

The Gemini rollout begins today. Once available, users will see a tooltip inside their Android Auto interface. Activation is simple: enable Gemini on your phone, then say “Hey Google,” tap the mic icon or long-press the steering wheel voice button.

Google says this is the start of a long-term upgrade path for in-car AI, promising more capabilities designed to make every drive safer, more productive and more enjoyable.
