In a landmark announcement on October 14, 2025, Google revealed its plans to establish a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh. This hi-tech facility, Google’s largest investment in India to date, is set to deploy a comprehensive AI stack—spanning powerful computing infrastructure, advanced data center capacity, expanded fiber networks, and large-scale energy solutions—all unified in one location.

Supporting India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 Vision

The $15 billion investment, spread over five years (2026–2030), directly supports the Indian Government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative, which aims to accelerate the country’s AI-driven growth. According to an analysis by Access Partnership for Google, the hub is projected to generate at least $15 billion in American GDP thanks to an anticipated boost in cloud and AI adoption, along with contributions from U.S.-based talent and resources involved in developing and running the center. Google’s commitment promises transformative benefits for both nations and lays the groundwork for a new era in AI innovation.

Insights from Key Indian Leaders and Google Executives

Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble IT Minister, Government of India: “I would like to thank Google for making this announcement of $15 billion dollars. This digital infrastructure will go a long way in meeting the goals of our India AI mission. I would also like to thank the Honorable Prime Minister for giving us this vision of using technology in every walk of life. I would like the industry to help re-skill and upskill our IT professionals in a major way, and thank Google for making this a major part of their agenda. AI services are emerging as a totally new category in our digital economy, and we look forward to this new facility being used for developing our youth for AI services.

Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh: “This significant investment in Andhra Pradesh marks a new chapter in India’s digital transformation journey. We are proud to host India’s first truly gigawatt-scale data center and Google’s first AI hub in India, which is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation, AI adoption, and long-term support for businesses and startups in the state.

Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud: “The Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam represents a landmark investment in India’s digital future. By delivering industry-leading AI infrastructure at scale, we are enabling businesses to innovate faster and creating meaningful opportunities for inclusive growth. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to the Indian and U.S. governments to harness AI responsibly and drive transformative impact for society.

Transforming India’s Digital and AI Landscape

The new Visakhapatnam AI hub will feature a purpose-built data center campus boasting gigawatt-scale compute capacity, designed to meet surging digital demand and support global digital services. Developed with partners AdaniConneX and Airtel, this facility incorporates the advanced infrastructure powering flagship Google products like Search, Workspace, and YouTube.

Businesses and organizations will gain access to high-performance, low-latency AI services, accelerating their R&D and supporting India’s ascent as a global AI leader. The campus will join Google’s extensive international data center network spanning 12 countries, and will benefit from technologies developed at Google’s Indian R&D centers in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.

Establishing a Global Gateway for Connectivity

A key facet of Google’s investment is the creation of a new international subsea gateway, featuring multiple high-capacity cables landing in Visakhapatnam on India’s east coast. This will connect to Google’s global network—over two million miles of terrestrial and subsea cables—transforming Vizag into a worldwide AI and connectivity hub.

Enhancing Energy Infrastructure with Clean Initiatives

Google’s Visakhapatnam AI hub is set to operate among the most energy-efficient data centers globally, building on the company’s existing clean energy initiatives in India. Collaborating with local partners, Google will introduce new transmission lines, clean energy generators, and storage systems—significantly strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s electricity grid. These efforts will contribute to a diversified portfolio of clean technologies, supporting India’s sustainability goals and delivering reliable power for advanced digital services.
