New AI Content Labels for Transparency
Pinterest is introducing new features to give users more control over the Generative AI (Gen AI) content they encounter on the platform. Over the past few months, Pinterest has been testing tools to improve transparency and user experience around AI-modified or AI-generated images.
AI-Modified Label on Pins
Now, these features are being rolled out globally, allowing users to see a label on image Pins that have been modified or created using Gen AI. When users click on a Pin in close-up view, they’ll see an “AI modified” label in the bottom-left corner. Pinterest uses advanced classifiers to detect AI content, even when there are no obvious signs.
Empowering Users to Make Informed Choices
We are empowering users to make more informed choices about the content they see," said Matt Madrigal, Pinterest’s Chief Technology Officer. "Our goal is for Gen AI content to enhance users' ability to discover and act on inspiration.
Introducing the "See Fewer" Option for AI Content
In addition, Pinterest will soon roll out a feature that lets users select a “see fewer” option for AI-generated content in categories like beauty and art. This feature will be available through a menu on the Pin, allowing users to signal to Pinterest’s systems to show them less of this content.

Appeals System for Mislabeling
Pinterest is also launching an appeals system for creators or users who believe their content has been mislabeled as AI-generated. These changes aim to provide a more transparent and customizable experience, ensuring that users are in control of the content they interact with on the platform.
