Google video overview

Google has announced new enhancements to NotebookLM, its AI-powered research assistant. These upgrades introduce Video Overviews and a refreshed Studio panel, designed to improve comprehension and collaboration.

Bringing Complex Ideas to Life with Video Overviews

Following its initial announcement at Google I/O, NotebookLM now features Video Overviews, a new Studio output that presents narrated slides enhanced with visuals, diagrams, quotes, and data from user documents. These serve as a powerful alternative to Audio Overviews, offering visual support for learning complex concepts or data-heavy content.

Users can customize their Video Overviews by.

  • Choosing specific topics
  • Setting learning goals
  • Defining the target audience
  • Asking either general or highly specific questions

The feature is now rolling out in English, with support for other languages coming soon.

A More Powerful, Flexible Studio Panel

The Studio panel has received a significant update. Previously, users were limited to one output type per notebook. Now, multiple outputs of the same type can be created and stored, enabling more personalized and comprehensive learning.

New Ways to Use Studio Outputs

The update unlocks several new use cases.

  • Global Reach: Create Audio Overviews in different languages to share public notebooks more widely.
  • Team Collaboration: Tailor Video or Audio Overviews to different team roles.
  • Focused Studying: Build a series of Mind Maps or Video Overviews focused on different course chapters.

Users will notice four new creation tiles Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Mind Maps, and Reports—with all generated content neatly organized below. The Studio also supports multitasking, allowing users to explore a Mind Map while listening to an Audio Overview.

Availability

The redesigned Studio panel and Video Overviews are rolling out to all NotebookLM users over the next few weeks, further enhancing how people engage with complex information.
