OpenAI is launching Stargate UAE the first international version of Stargate, its powerful AI infrastructure platform. This project is part of OpenAI’s long-term goal to build advanced computing capacity around the world to support safe, secure, and widely beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
This launch is also the beginning of a new initiative called OpenAI for Countries, which aims to help governments build their own national AI capabilities in partnership with the U.S. government. This effort is based on democratic values, open markets, and trustworthy partnerships.
The new agreement involves several major partners: G42, Oracle, NVIDIA, Cisco, and SoftBank. It was developed closely with the U.S. government, and OpenAI thanked President Trump for supporting the effort.
The partnership includes two major investments.
- A 1-gigawatt Stargate UAE AI computing center in Abu Dhabi, with 200 megawatts planned to go live in 2026.
- UAE investment in U.S. Stargate infrastructure, building on the U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership announced during President Trump's recent visit.
This new step builds on OpenAI’s major investment in U.S. AI infrastructure announced earlier this year when it launched Stargate. It shows OpenAI’s commitment to boosting America’s technology while also helping friendly nations gain access to responsible, secure AI.
Earlier this year, the UAE pledged to invest $1.4 trillion in the U.S. a move expected to create jobs, boost the economy, and support U.S. technological leadership.
This new partnership will help the UAE use OpenAI’s tools in important areas like government, energy, healthcare, education, and transportation. It’s expected to drive innovation, support economic growth, and improve quality of life. The UAE will also be the first country in the world to enable nationwide access to ChatGPT, allowing everyone in the country to use OpenAI’s technology.
Stargate UAE will provide powerful AI infrastructure across a 2,000-mile radius, potentially reaching half the world’s population.
OpenAI hopes this is just the beginning. It has already started talks with other countries interested in building their own Stargate systems. In the first phase of OpenAI for Countries, OpenAI plans to form 10 global partnerships to build a worldwide, democratically powered AI network.
Starting next week, Jason Kwon, OpenAI’s Chief Strategy Officer, will begin a tour across Asia Pacific, meeting with governments and private sector partners to explore new AI infrastructure and services.
OpenAI says it is excited to continue working with governments and partners who share this vision.
