WCF CRUD operations. What technology actual todays?

Hello guys, i learning WCF and trying to create a service that use entity framework(data base first way) and implement crud operations for my wpf project. I saw many topics, guides, but they all like 2009-2013 year. What technology actual todays? I have learned wcf data service, but many people tell me, that this technology old(for example in visual studio 2017 is missing wcf data service template). So what methods should i use, can you advice? My future service will hosted by windows service.
