Developing QlikView Application

Introduction

QlikView applications are very useful for the user for original data source purposes. Within a few minutes the simple application can be created using the QlikView Wizards.

How to develop the QlikView Application

There are many ways to develop the QlikView application. Using the best method it is simple to create the application.

Use the following procedure to do it:

  • Locate the data source
  • Create the load script
  • Execute the load script
  • Place objects on a sheet
  • Start the application
  • Add multiple sheets and objects as per user requirements

Step 1: How to Locate the data source

This is the first way to start the application in QlikView. In this method we need to determine what data you want to loaded. The application data will always come from an Excel file, spreadsheet and any type of database. The user can load the data from a single source file and database. If the user wants to load the integrated data from any source then it can be done at the same time. The QlikView application practically works with the data within any format like hierarchical databases, multi-dimensional databases and cross tables. The first row does not contain the fields labels, although the user can change or set the labels in the wizard or in the script.

If you want to load the multiple files or tables then the QlikView automatically associates the fields with the same name.

Step 2: Creation of the load script

After locating the data source, the second step is how to create the load script. If your source data is contained in a text file, Excel file or any other spreadsheet then the "typed file" wizard guides you with a few simple steps. By using the few dialog boxes, you will specify the table name and files name. After completing this process the wizard will add the load script.

Step 3: Execute the load script

By successfully completing the second step, the third step is how to execute the load script, the user executes the load script using the "Run" button in the Edit Script Dialog, and the second way is to execute the load script by selecting "Reload"; this option is available on the toolbar and the file menu. The process of executing the load script is done in sequential order. After completion of this process, the copy of all the data referred to in the load script is available in the QlikView application.

Step 4: Place objects on a sheet

Placing the objects on a sheet. It is a very simple process. By using the "Select Field" dialog box one or more objects can be placed on the current sheet. Any or all of the fields that were loaded by the script that can be displayed on the same sheet.

Step 5: Start the application

After placing the objects on a sheet, the application is ready for use. After the creation of the first object on a sheet, the application is ready. All objects that were used in the same sheet are automatically associated together. The objects initiates a query, simply clicking on objects.

Step 7: Add multiple sheets and objects as per user requirement

You can add the multiple objects and sheets to the QlikView application. The objects can be copied and moved to other sheets using the drag and drop option, by simply dragging and dropping the objects can be moved to another sheet. The addition of multiple pictures, text boxes and wallpapers give a professional look to the QlikView application.

That is the basic procedure to simply create the QlikView application.

Summary

After successfully doing this procedure, a working QlikView application can be created. The user can use this application for the original data source purposes.
