Security Enhancements in Windows 10

Introduction

We know that users are very excited about Windows 10. Microsoft introduced many new features in Windows 10. One of the major features is enhanced security. So in this article, we will learn about the security enhancements in Windows 10.

Security is a big term in today's world. As we know webs and the internet have emerged and are growing day by day. We are very familiar with these things. The cat and mouse game is always running between the online hackers/criminals and the computer security team. The major problem with it is that this software is affected very badly. There are many types of problems related to security aspects like Identity theft, malware and many more. Microsoft promised to provide good security in Windows 10. So here we explain those features one by one.

Biometric systems are very popular for security. Here we also use a biometric system for authentication. As we know, biometrics is more secure and reliable compared to other security programs. In the biometric system, we can use facial recognition, fingerprints, thumb expressions, eyes retina or many more for unlocking a device. So we can say it is more secure for authentication purposes compared to passwords.

Identity and User Credentials

Windows 10 introduced multi-factor authentication. Using multi-factor authentication Microsoft reduced the need for extra hardware security peripherals. Using this feature user will enroll their devices using their credentials. When they are enrolled with their device, maybe the device is old or might be new, then the device will be needed at authentication time. The second factor will be your pin, password or maybe your biometric identity. Using this, whenever a security attacker attacks for your information then he needs your physical device or user credentials and the second need is for your pin or biometric identification. So thing provides the authentication only for the valid user for their computers, laptops, networks, as well as mobile phones. Protecting user credentials is a single part of the authentication. The second thing is to make secure the tokens generated when the user is authenticated. Once attackers get these tokens then they can easily access our information. So to make these tokens secure from hackers Windows 10 uses a new technology known as Hyper V technology.

Information Protection

As its name indicates, information protection security is related to that data present in our system. As we know Microsoft provided the Bit Locker facilities for making our data secure. Using Bit locker we can encrypt the entire disk for security. Another one we used is cloud-based protection security like Azure, Information Rights Management and many more. These are all used for the security that no one can access our private and confidential data or files. Windows 10 introduced something new, Data Loss, Prevention (DLP). Using this we can separate the personal data and business data. After separating our data we provide prevention for accessing the data. DLP automatically converts the business information like Emails, data, corporate files, and other sensitive data into the encrypted form when your device exists in corporate networks. When sometime we are at home and we want to use our critical data, to do that Windows 10 provides the spectrum VPN for constant connectivity. Using the VPN we can decide which data is accessible and which is not. So VPN is an important part of the private data accessing in Windows 10.

Threat Resistance

As we know, malware is a major problem for the security aspects. Windows 10 will offer anti-malware techniques. But it is not easy to implement because this is very sensitive. Here malware comes into existence when the user installs an unauthorized app. The user might install malware inadvertently. So to overcome this we can use only those applications signed by Microsoft. Windows 10 provides the organization with the ability to lock down devices, to protect them from malware. Using it you can only install trusted applications.

Windows Defender

Before Windows 10, all previous versions of Windows have limited antispyware features. This is also known as Windows Defender. In Windows 8 it is known as the antimalware program or Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender does not perform any type of effect on system resources. It also monitors the Networks, in other words, it also works on the firewall and so on. If you install any other antivirus then Windows Defender disables its real-time services only but the remaining services are available for the protection.

Summary

So these are some of the security features available in Windows 10. As we know, the final version of Windows 10 is not released. So there might be some new features also introduced. But I say only this the preceding security features will make Windows 10 more reliable and secure for users. I hope users will like these security features in Windows 10.
