Scalable Vector Graphics - Polyline

Introduction

Before reading further, read the following articles.
Now let's move to learn SVG Polyline.

SVG Polyline

The <polyline> tag draws various shapes using only multiple (poly = multiple) straight lines connecting to each other. It does not need to specify the starting and ending coordinates for each line and each time like the SVG line.

In other words, it is used to draw open shapes without closing itself like polygons.

Syntax
  1. <svg height="200" width="500">
  2.     <polyline points="20,20 40,25 60,40 80,120 120,140 200,180"
  3. style="fill:none;stroke:red;stroke-width:3" />
  4. </svg>
The attribute “points” is used to make up a polyline by listing all the necessary points for making specified shapes.

Let's see a few examples to make it easier to understand.

Example 1

The following makes a random shape by connecting multiple straight lines.
  1. <html>
  2.     <body>
  3.         <svg height="200" width="500">
  4.             <polyline points="10,40 70,15 50,80 90,70 120,100 250,80" style="fill:none;stroke:red;stroke-width:3" />
  5.         </svg>
  6.     </body>
  7. </html>
Output

Example 2

The following are specific shapes.
  1. <html>
  2.     <body>
  3.         <svg height="200" width="500">
  4.             <polyline points="10,120 30,15 70,70 125,15 130,120" style="fill:none;stroke:lime;stroke-width:3" />
  5.             <polyline points="150,15 170,120 190,90 210,120 230,15" style="fill:none;stroke:tomato;stroke-width:5" />
  6.             <polyline points="320,15 300,120 250,15 240,120" style="fill:none;stroke:blue;stroke-width:5" />
  7.         </svg>
  8.     </body>
  9. </html>
Output

Example 3

The following shows dashed strokes.
  1. <html>
  2.     <body>
  3.         <svg height="200" width="500">
  4.             <polyline points="0,40 40,40 40,80 80,80 80,120 120,120 120,120 120,80 160,80 160,40 200,40" style="fill:none;stroke:green;stroke-width:3; stroke-dasharray:7 3" />
  5.             <polyline points="220,10 300,10 220,100 300,100" style="fill:none;stroke:orange;stroke-width:5; stroke-dasharray:10 3" />
