How to Configure DTC Tracing in Windows Server 2012

Introduction

In my previous article I told you How to Configure DTC Security to allow on your System to Participate in Remote Transactions.

In this article you will learn about how to configure DTC Tracing in Windows Server 2012.

This article will help your system to trace transactions that can be either an Aborted Transaction or a Long-Live Transaction this will also help to trace output.

Step 1

First of all Logon to your Windows Server 2012 as Administrator. Now go to the "Start Menu" and search for "Component Services".

Now as you open the Component Services, this type of window will appear in front of you.

Here you will get an option named as "Computers", double click on this option to open it.

Step 2

In Computers you will find your Computer name (as I have "My Computer"), open this as well by double-clicking on it.

Now you will get 3-4 options to choose from, here you must open the "Distributed Transaction Coordinator".

Step 3

Now "Local DTC" will appear in front of you. You must right-click on it to open it's Properties.

Now a "Local DTC Property" window will be opened. Here you will see three options in the head section, in other words Tracing, Logging and Security. As in this article we are discussing the tracing so you need to click on the "Tracing" button.

Step 4

Now under the "Output" option you will get many options to choose from, like:

  • You can select the "Trace Output" option that will trace the Output of Transactions.
  • You can select to "Trace the Transactions".
  • Under the Trace Transactions you can select to trace all types of transactions.
  • Or you can select any single type of transaction to be traced.

Step 5

You can flush the data that was traced earlier, this can be done by selecting the "Flush Data" option available in the Logging option.

You can also choose to stop the session, which will stop the tracing process. This will be done by selecting "Stop Session".

If you choose to stop the session then you will get an option to start a new session.
