Where're all the Techie-Amazons?

This is probably true. In interviews, I see many female candidates but not too many at conferences and events.

A lot has been written about gender differences in the IT field, esp development and graphic design. I have seen articles, forum posts, and debates on this topic. So recently I thought maybe in India too it's the same, and I was thinking to do some research/talks on this. But then I attended an MSDN event (right heer in Mumbai), and was stunned to see that 60% of the audience constituted girls! And they weren't just looking like freshers but experienced developers. Quite a few of them asked intelligent questions too. So that rested my doubts that there are few women in development in India. Actually there are plenty, it's just that most of the time they keep a low profile. One important factor is the attitude - at home, at office, and in society - all guys seem to think that women are good only for low priority jobs, like testing, writing documentation, or doing receptionist kind of thing. At home, also women face lot of opposition, from parents, from inlaws, from brothers, etc. And society is also very discriminatory against women in many ways. And women are always loaded with additional responsibilities in addition to their jobs. Despite all this obstacles, there continues to be good number of women in IT development and I feel very proud of such women who manage to come up top in spite of their difficulties. As men, you can do one really good thing - never underestimate the capability of a woman.

I can give you a damn good idea.. Womens are less in number for techie jobs.. i can find lots of them working as Test Engg. So lets create a section of Testing and i'm sure you'll find them searching that section. ;)
