Alert in Sharepoint Portal Server 2003

Question

Hi, i am Marekua, i am deploying Sharepoint portal server 2003 at a client site. I notice that after configuring the shared services in the parent portal, i still can not receive an alert from a child portal when i check it out, so i was wondering how i could setup the alert for the child portal. Any ideas will be appreciated greatly, thank you.
