Azure IoT Hub and Azure IoT Edge are both essential components of Microsoft's Azure IoT platform, but they serve distinct purposes.
Azure IoT Hub is a cloud-based service that acts as a central hub for connecting, managing, and ingesting data from IoT devices. It handles device-to-cloud and cloud-to-device communication, device provisioning, security, and device twin management. It provides robust scalability, security, and device management capabilities, making it ideal for handling large-scale IoT deployments in the cloud.
Azure IoT Edge, on the other hand, is an extension of Azure IoT that enables cloud capabilities to be deployed locally on edge devices. It allows AI, analytics, and other advanced workloads to run directly on edge devices, reducing latency and bandwidth usage. Azure IoT Edge enables real-time processing and decision-making closer to the data source, enhancing the responsiveness and efficiency of IoT solutions.
