binding controls in a form with variables

Question

Hi, I'm new to C# and I have a problem. I don't know how to do the following thing: I have an application that is supposed to load a file (exactly a csv file) and to show the name of the file (that is the path of the file) in a textbox. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Adisor

Hi there, Could someone help me with the following problem. I have an application that is supposed to substract a submatrix from a matrix listed in a file (a CSV file for the record). Besides the name of the file the user has to provide the coordinates of the upper left point of the submatrix(the row & the column) and the coordinates of right down point of the submatrix. The coordinates of the two points required ae entered using controls. Regarding that I have the following questions: 1) How can I parse a CSV file and find out how many columns the matrix has ? (In C++ I tried using getline function which has a param. that specifies the delimiter) 1) If at any time I want to modify the file containing the initial matrix how can tell the control that the no of rows & the no of columns of the initial matrix has been modified? 3) The last but not the least question: If the operations I perform on a matrix are put in a clas library and the application that deals with the gui is separate how can I pass the inputs provided by the user as param to the funtions that deal with the matrix? Please, if anyone can help me, I would appreciate that help very much. Many thanks in advance. Adisor

Hi, Sorry I forget your the other questions. To pass the stream to a textbox. It is easy. using System.IO; ... StreamReader sReader = new StreamReader(ofg.FileName); TextBox1.Text = sReader.ReadToEnd(); You can play around with sReader - read, readline, etc Cheers.

Hi, To show the name of the file selected (path): private void button1_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { if(ofg.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { string selectedFileName = ofg.FileName.ToString(); MessageBox.Show(selectedFileName); } } To load a csv, You can use StreamReader. In fact I'm confused : the OpenFile() method from OpenFileDialog return a stream and as far as I could see up to now , a textbox can receive only strings. Can anyone help me ??? Please !!!
