I am now reading Herb Schildt's books and its taking my memory back to 10 years when I was college studying Java. This is a good book and I will pick up C# faster than I thought. But as Andrew said, I am going read and code as many books as I can.

Just as important as getting the books, you should download the Microsoft Express C# version of Visual Studio.  That's the free version of Microsoft Visual Studio.  You use Visual Studio to write code and create applications.  If you're a beginner, the free version has everything you need.  Just Google for "Microsoft Express" and you'll find it.

It's not enough to read books.  You have to write code.  Read something.  Try writing some code.  Read some more.  It takes persistance.

I'd only buy Herb Schildt's 'C# 4.0 The Complete Reference' if you're not going to buy his 'Beginner's Guide' as well because a lot of the material from the latter is repeated (or rehashed) in the former.

You can still download the free book in my post above. That will give you a good understanding of C# language before you get any other book.

Sorry, I did not mention this from the beginning.

I actually took 4 Java courses (Computer Science Degree) in the university 10 years ago and I did some college projects using java, sql, and jsp. I also have some experience creating websites using Photoshop, HTML, and Dreamweaver.

I am currently in the world of networking, Linux, and Windows and it has become ridiculous what the companies here in USA are doing against system admin and network engineers. They want them to do the work of three people, to have more of 7 different skills, and to work 11 hours per day.

Being a developer may required to have various skills but all concentrate in what you do, so you become a master in one technology not a middle master in; Cisco, VMware, Linux, Perl, JBOSS, Apache, DNS, specific monitoring and back up applications, database, SQL, etc.......

developers and DBA Administrator are the few IT careers that concentrate only in a specific technology.

Although it's not a beginner's book as such, you might also like to consider this one (http://www.amazon.com/C-4-0-Nutshell-Definitive-Reference/dp/0596800959) which is an excellent reference book with chapters not just on the C# language itself but on stuff such as LINQ, networking, security, threading, interop and regular expressions all of which the professional programmer should have in his/her armory.

I agree. First learn the language and then you can buy one of the Pro books from Apress. They have lot of good information .. by Mathew McDonald. Also AWL books are good.

Visual C# 2010 Pro is probably a good one. I don't know exact name but you get the idea.
