C# Detecting an attempt to download a file

Thanks for getting back to me... I do appreciate it very much.

I am actually trying to program so that when I see something is being downloaded, or attempting to, I want to take a screenshot of the pc at that moment.

That is my hope for this if that makes sense.

It depends on the purpose. If you are trying to detect it so you can prevent malicious software from harming your system, then it is not likely that you can do somehing easily that would be better than what Microsoft does. In other words, the most effective solution would be to determine what Microsoft has done to secure the system from threats such as that. Many people would say that Microsoft has not done that very well but if you think you can do it better then go ahead and try and I will be impressed if a member of this community can do it better than Microsoft has done it. The problem is that any vulnerabilities that still exist result from flaws that exist in Windows.

Note tha anything that downloads files uses either TCP or UDP so malicious software could bypass everything that you might think is for downloading and they could write their own download code. So prevention of that would require monitoring all incoming and outgoing communication for anything that is suspicious. And guess what; that is what a Firewall does.

So what do you need to do this for?
