C# here to stay?

I've been working with C# for about six months. I'm considering investing a lot more time learning it. It's my first experience with an object oriented language. I'm thinking about studying for the MCAD and using C# to get through it. Will C# be a marketable language to know over the next five years? Does it have a real future? I searched for some articles on the Web but haven't found that much info. Thanks. C#novice

My company is made up of smaller divisions, each with their own client, and each is functionally their own business with their own rules. I'd say 3 out of 5 of them are asking for C# on posts for new jobs. That's pretty darn good (we're a fortune 500 company). It's not the ONLY skill you need, but it's something that you'll definitely need to know. There's good news. C# is a hop from C++, a skip from Java and just across the room from VB6. It's really easy to learn (REALLY), and there are free commercial-grade tools everywhere (see DOTNET SDK, SharpDevelop, and Borland C#Builder). There's no excuse not to know it.

The answer is an enthusiastic Yes. Microsoft has put a lot of resources into C#, and is using the language its standard programming language for new MS Apps. This language has been picking up steam ever since the beta release and the best indication I have that its here to stay is the fact that Sun is scrambling to find a way to stop losing developers from Java to C#. -James
