C# is memory eater!!!

How on earth do you explain that my simple one form application with nothing on it takes ower 40 mb of ram memory (seen in task mannager)??? Please tell me how can I reduce this because if decide on writing a little more complicated program, I'm affraid that i will end up with no memory to run it! I need concrete answer or realy good solution or explanation PLEASE!!!!

Hi, Actually back in 1 or 2 years ago, someone created a tutorial in cfxweb on reducing the memory usage on windows forms using some tools and some cool techniques (yeah, i tried it before). I tried to find that tutorial, and seems that cfxweb is half dead now. Maybe you can try to google around in "cfxweb", maybe you are lucky and can find it. Cheers.

After all this messing around with memory usage and forms, I made a strange discovery. I noticed that the memory usage of my form went down drastically when minimized(~600K) and when I restored it, the memory usage did not jump back up to where it was before(went back to ~4.5MB. I even saw it as low as 2.5 MB with focus). So I thought I'd try something and put this into my FormLoad event handler: this.WindowState = FormWindowState.Minimized; this.WindowState = FormWindowState.Normal; And lo and behold, when I load up the form, it is now at about 4.5 MB memory usage as opposed to 14 MB. It's extremely odd to me, but if it helps anyone having memory issues, it's worth a shot. The minimize/restore call isn't noticeable, at least on my pc.

Not to mention that the complexity of the program may be linearly related to the memory usage(maybe not, I'm not 100% certain), but the base seems to be somewhere around 14k for the most simplistic form. This form is more complex than the blank form you posted(which should still only be using about 14-15MB), and this one barely uses about 15MB. So for the complexity increase, you don't get that much of an increase in memory usage.

Just barely over 14MB actually. Here is a screenshot. I'll say it again, I don't know what you're doing to get it up to 40MB.

Hi there, It is because of the .NET Framework CLR :) Try to look into AppDomains and maybe you will know more. Cheers.

Wathever...but u didn't ask my question...C# have a nice syntax and i like it but i can't understand "what a hell is wrong here ? ". One win form uses about 30-40mb pagefile.Explain that . uses System; uses System.Windows.Form; namespace Default { public class Glavna : Form { public Glavna() { Init(); } public Init() { this.Text = " I'm a Form and i'm using a 40Mb pagefile...I'm so happy :P"; } static void Main() { Application.Run(new Glavna()); } } } Capish ? This application takes 30-40mb respectively...

If you are happy with Delphi, then stick to it. Leave C# for us. If you're still interested in comparing Delphi with C# then jump to this blog http://www.lemanix.com/nick/archive/2004/04/16/342.aspx. That's better. Cheers, Yasser

And u think that 15mb form is OK ? Try Delphi (pascal) ....

I don't know what you're doing to get a blank form up to over 40MB, a blank form for me is only about 15 MB. You have to take into consideration the CLR and its overhead costs. No matter what, it's still better than Java and it's VM.
