Can anyone explain Managed & Unmanaged Code in layman's term

Question

Hello,

 

Recently i have faced one interview question regarding what is managed and unmanaged code. I told them that "The code which executes under the CLR environment called as managed code and code which is not executeds under the CLR called as unmanaged code.

 

They said i know this things but i actually want to know what is managed and unmanaged code. please explain in layman's term.

 

so I don't have answer of this question.
