check date should not exceed to current date using javascri

I have to enter date in textbox like this:

I have to check the entered date should not exceed the current date using javascript.The alert message should display if date exceed.

Please help.

try this just add your date in GivenDate
var GivenDate = '2018-02-22';
var CurrentDate = new Date();
GivenDate = new Date(GivenDate);

if(GivenDate > CurrentDate){
    alert('Given date is greater than the current date.');
}else{
    alert('Given date is not greater than the current date.');
}
