close an application with backgroundworker

I'd add a timer to your form (if it's a windows forms application), set its Interval property to whatever the defined time is in milliseconds and then add this line to its Tick event handler:

private void timer1_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)

{

   backGroundWorker1.CancelAsync();

}

When you start the backgroundworker, you'll then need to start the timer at the same time.

The backgroundworker's WorkerSupportCancellation property will also need to be set to true.

Withn the DoWork handler, you'll need to check periodically whether the CancellationPending property has been set to true.

If it has, then you'll need to :

1. Set e.Cancel to true.

2. Call 'return' to exit DoWork.

Finally, in the RunWorkerCompleted handler, you'll need code like this to close the application:

private void backgroundWorker1_RunWorkerCompleted(object sender, RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs e)

{

    if (e.Cancelled) Application.Exit();

    // any other code

}

I haven't tried here to address the situation where DoWork has already completed by the time it's cancelled as I don't know:

(a) whether this is feasible; and

(b) if it is, what you'd want to do.
